Are you experiencing Safari browser keeps crashing or freezing issue more frequently? Here we will discuss several workarounds you can try to fix the issue on iPhone or iPad.

As we all know, Safari is the web browser that comes pre-installed on every iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

While Safari in iOS is considered to be reliable and not crash or freeze frequently, there might be some exceptions where you can face these issues.

Luckily, there are some simple fixes to Safari keeps crashing issue on your iOS device, and that is what we are going to discuss in this guide.

How to Fix Safari Keeps Crashing Issue? When you’re going through “Safari quit unexpectedly” issue, you can use methods like restarting your phone, clearing Safari’s history and web data, closing all its windows, force closing the Safari app and some other techniques.

Why iPhone Safari Keeps Crashing?

Apple often optimises critical iOS apps such as Safari, Phone, and Messages. However, if you have too many open tabs or are using an older version of iOS (or an old device), Safari may not function correctly.

In addition, if you haven’t deleted the Safari data in a long time, you may experience frequent malfunctions.

Fortunately, there are simple solutions. Let us have a look.

Fix Safari Keeps Crashing or Freezing on iPhone or iPad

1. Restart Your Device

Sometimes, the easiest way can be considered as the most effective one. That is why, restarting your device can turn out to solve this problem.

  • To turn off your iPhone using the power and volume button.
  • Turn it back on after a minute.

2. Force Close The Safari App And Relaunch It

Sometimes simply forcibly closing the programme and reopening Safari is enough to fix a browser issue:

  • Double-click the Home button, then slide up to quit the Safari app and reopen it as usual.

3. Clean Safari’s History And Web Data

Safari stores caches, browser history, passwords, and other information on the iPhone or iPad.

Because such data can sometimes conflict with app operation, wiping it away can solve issues with the app crashing or freezing on specific websites.

  • Open Settings App on your iPhone/iPad.
  • Search for “Safari” option.
  • Next, click on Safari and scroll down to find Clear History and Website data.
  • Now, click on “Clear History and Website data”.

This will help you remove all kinds of cookies and caches that are the reason behind the iPhone’s safari crashes.

4. Close All Safari Windows

iOS is intelligent enough to manage RAM and other resources properly. However, having too many open tabs may consume too much RAM and cause Safari freezing and stopping.

  • Press and hold the two square icons in Safari’s bottom right corner to shut all tabs at once. Then, select Close All [number] Tabs.

5. Deactivate the JavaScript Option

Many websites use a computer language called Javascript. This software includes all of the website’s functionality as well as animations.

It is wonderful, but if the code is not correctly designed, it may not load the web pages correctly, causing the Safari browser on iPhone or iPad to crash.

To deactivate the JavaScript option, follow these steps:

  • Open Settings option on your iPhone/iPad.
  • Within the Settings menu, select the Safari tab.
  • Scroll down and select Advanced from the drop-down menu.
  • Switch the Javascript option slider to the off position.

This will effectively deactivate JavaScript processing and should resolve your Safari crash problem.

6. Update to the Most Recent iOS Version

Safari, unlike other applications, cannot be upgraded through the App Store because it is not a third-party app.

Apple delivers periodic iOS upgrades to correct problems and existing issues. Running the most recent version of iOS is always a good idea.

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Then, select General, followed by Software Update option.
  • Tap on Download and Install if you notice a pending update.

7. Turn Off Safari Suggestions

You can simply turn off this feature by Safari if you don’t use it. It will help to create less bulk on the application.

Follow the below steps to Turn off Safari suggestions.

  • Go to Settings option on your device.
  • Now scroll down and click on Safari option.
  • Next, deactivate the Safari Suggestions button.

8. Turn off iCloud And Safari Sync

All of your Safari data is synced with iCloud using the iCloud function. If you attempted all of the above options and your Safari still crashes, the issue might be with iCloud rather than your phone.

This sync function may be beneficial; however, it is possible to cause Safari crashes. It would help if you tried turning off and then re-enabling iCloud Sync.

To deactivate iCloud and Safari browser-sync, follow these steps:

  • Go to the Settings option on your iPhone.
  • Tap on an Apple ID name from the Settings menu.
  • Select the iCloud option.
  • To disable iCloud Sync, deactivate the toggle icon next to Safari.

How To Stop Safari From Refreshing Pages?

If you spend too much time in a CPU-intensive software, such as the Figma online graphics editor or an endless scroll website, you may get a warning indicating that the page is consuming too many resources, which will ultimately cause the page to reload.

To avoid this, it’s a good idea to monitor your CPU load for various programmes over time.

The software iStat Menus is ideal for this.

This menu bar programme keeps track of every element of your Mac, from CPU use to RAM to drives to networks, and so forth.

You can examine your CPU performance right now as well as over the last 24 hours to see what is eating up space.

Limiting the number of tabs, you have open is one method to ensure that Safari is consuming less CPU.

When undertaking heavy-duty labour, try to reduce them to five, three, or even a single page.

Is Safari Consuming Too Much Memory? (Free Up Space)

Aside from the CPU problem that causes sites to refresh, Safari might also freeze because the browser and all of the other programmes consume all of your available RAM.

To correct the problem, you must force your Mac to surrender some RAM. How would you go about doing that? Simply launch CleanMyMac X once more:

  • Start CleanMyMac X.
  • Go to the Maintenance tab.
  • Check the Free Up RAM box.
  • Click the Run button.

Final Words

So, this was all about what to do when Safari crashes on iPhone or other iOS device.

With the help of the above solutions, you will be able to fix this annoying problem that is getting in your way of browsing.
