Unmatch on Tinder

Thinking to get rid of some unnecessary matches on Tinder? Here is the step by step guide on how to unmatch someone on Tinder in just few steps.

So, let’s get started…

Tinder is the most popular dating app on a global scale. To give an idea, Tinder boasts an impressive record of having 75 million monthly users all over the world. The United States of America is the most active contributor to Tinder’s net revenue, accounting for over 40% of their total income. The application has become an industry leader with over 400 million downloads across several territories.

Tinder’s popularity is ginormous in proportions, with the dating app being used in 190 countries and available in more than 40 languages. Moreover, the success of the application is determined by how efficient it is at providing a solution. In Tinder’s case, it has built many lasting and loving relationships with 1.5 million of its users going on dates every week!

In this article, we will look into how Tinder works and how you can match-unmatch as per your requirements.

How Does Tinder Work?

The interface and functionality of Tinder are pretty simple. The dating app matches its users with other people on the application based on their proximity, shared interests, photos, and so on.

The application uses a swipe interface using which the users can either swipe right to “like” a profile or swipe left to “pass”.

When two users swipe right on each other’s profiles, they become a match and can continue their interactions through the app.

Matching and UnMatching

As we mentioned above, two users swiping right to each other’s profiles leads to a Tinder match. The users can then take their relationship to the next stage by interacting, messaging, and planning dates all through Tinder’s user interface.

But in some cases, users need to know how to unmatch on Tinder as well. If you have matched with someone on Tinder and don’t want to continue your interactions with them, unmatching is the best solution.

What happens when you unmatch someone on Tinder? For starters, both of your profiles will be removed from each others’ match list. Secondly, your conversations with the person will also be removed, and they won’t be able to message you or interact with your profile in any way. A note of warning, though, there is no way to undo the action, so before unmatching someone please make sure that you give it a lot of thought.

Why Unmatch Someone On Tinder?

Why you should remove someone from your Tinder’s match list? Here are some three compelling reasons –

1. You Don’t Want To Continue Your Interactions

The most common reason for unmatching someone on Tinder is that you just don’t want to continue your relationship with the person. It might be because the person didn’t turn out to be the kind you were expecting, or simply not your type. In such situations, unmatching someone is the better option for both parties as the other alternative is ghosting.

2. You Swiped Right By Mistake

It can happen – you are on a Tinder swipe spree and accidentally swiped right on someone you don’t find interesting. Rather than leading the person on, the right thing to do is to unmatch the person and close the chapter before it begins.

3. You Want To Get Rid Of A Creepy Stalker

Tinder is generally a safe space for meeting interesting and compatible individuals. But sometimes you might come across a couple of rotten cookies. Encountering a stalker or a harasser on Tinder is not common, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be prepared. In such cases, unmatching can be the quickest cure. But remember, when you come across such a profile on Tinder, make sure that you report them in addition to unmatching them.

How to Unmatch a Profile on Tinder?

So now comes the important part – what is the procedure to unmatch a profile on Tinder? We all know that Tinder boasts a very simple user interface, making everything convenient for its users. As such, unmatching a profile isn’t a complex process either.

All you need to do is follow these steps to unmatch someone on Tinder –

  • Open the Tinder application on your iPhone or Android device.
  • Locate and tap on the ‘Messages’ icon that is located on the bottom of the screen.
  • The message screen will now open. Scroll through the list of people you have talked to and find the user that you want to unmatch.
  • Open your chat with the person you want to unmatch.
  • On this screen, you will see either the shield icon, flag icon (iOS), or ellipses (Android) icon. Tap on whatever you see on the top right of your screen.
  • Tap on “Unmatch” if you just want to remove the profile from your match list.
  • Tap on “Report & Unmatch” if you want to report the profile as well.

Final Thoughts

On an application like Tinder, you are bound to come across some weirdoes. At other times, you can make the mistake of swiping right to a profile that you didn’t find interesting. Or you might even want to unmatch a profile that didn’t live up to your expectations. Either way, it is important to know how to unmatch a profile on Tinder. It is the right thing to do in case you don’t want to continue your interactions with a person.
