8 Ways to Fix the Cannot Verify Server Identity Error on iPhone and iPad

Are you tired of when your iPhone or iPad cannot verify server identity, disabling you from sending and receiving important E-Mails?

Let’s discuss some solutions to get rid of this troublesome error.

1. Check the Status of your Email Provider

Before anything else, you need to ensure that the problem is not from your end. Sometimes, your mailing app might not be functioning properly because its servers are experiencing some downtime.

You can use third-party tools to monitor the client-server status of different email providers such as Gmail or Yahoo.

If you find out that the servers are not facing an outage then you can move on to our next solutions.

2. Restart the Mail App

The simplest fix for any problem is to restart the application. It gets rid of some surface issues and if you’re lucky, you will be able to solve your problem.

Here’s how you can do that:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, double-tap the Home Button to open the App Switcher.
  2. Find the Mail App and swipe it up till it disappears.

3. Switch to Mobile Data/Cellular Network

Weird, isn’t it?

But according to multiple iPhone and iPad users, the error goes away if you switch to cellular data instead of a Wi-Fi connection.

If you keep getting the “Cannot Verify Server Identity” error then switch to cellular data, close your Wi-Fi, and then try sending a mail.

4. Restart your Device

Rebooting your iPhone or iPad can help eliminate some software glitches that might be interfering with your mailing app.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Go to your iPhone’s Settings.
  2. Open General settings.
  3. Tap on Shut Down.
  4. Wait for the phone to switch off and then start it again by holding the side button.

5. Turn off Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Encryption

Many users have reportedly solved the “cannot verify server identity” error by turning off their SSL encryption for their respective email accounts.

Here’s how you can do it –

  1. Open the Settings application and then go to Mail.
  2. Tap on Accounts.
  3. You will see a list of accounts. Tap on the account you want to use.
  4. Tap on your account once again to move forward.
  5. Tap on Advanced.
  6. Under the Incoming Settings tab, toggle off the Use SSL feature.

6. Temporarily Disable your Account

If you disable your affected account for a while and then re-enable it, the mailing app might be able to fix the communication issue with the email client’s server.

Here’s how you can do this:

  1. Go to the Settings app.
  2. Open Mail and then Accounts. Selected the problematic account.
  3. Turn off the Mail option.
  4. Turn off the same option again after waiting for 10 seconds.

This will force the mailing app to read the email address from the scratch and could help you solve the issue.

7. Delete the App from your Mailing App

Temporarily deleting and then re-adding your email account can help solve the issue. This particular fix has helped solve the problem for many users on the internet.

Here’s how you can do this –

  1. Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts. Tap on the problematic account.
  2. Tap on Delete Account.
  3. Ignore the warning prompt that will alert you that deleting the account will get rid of all your calendars, contacts, and so on.
  4. Tap on Delete from my iPhone.
  5. Go to the iOS account settings again and then tap on Add Account.
  6. Select your Email Service Provider.
  7. Enter your login credentials.

Try and see if your mailing app is working error-free.

8. Update your iOS Version

Outdated iOS versions are often the primary reasons why many applications don’t work properly on iPhones and iPads. Users can simply fix most of their errors and software glitches by updating their iOS versions through a simple process.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Connect your phone to a stable internet connection.
  2. Go to your iPhone’s Settings.
